When is palliative care needed?
Palliative Care can help a patient at any stage of a serious illness. It is best introduced early in the plan of care, but can be received at any time before, during, and after curative treatment.
Must other treatments be stopped in order to receive palliative care?
No. Palliative Care is designed to support patients already receiving treatment for their illness.
Is palliative care the same as hospice?
No, although both focus on comfort care, Hospice is for those approaching the last six months of life who have decided to forgo curative treatments. To learn more about hospice care click here.
Where are palliative care services provided?
Palliative care services are provided in our physician clinics and may be available where the patient resides (e.g. Assisted Living Facility, and Skilled Nursing Facility).
Who provides these services?
Depending on the needs of the patient, palliative care services are provided by a physician or nurse practitioner, social worker, and in some cases a chaplain. To learn more about palliative care services click here.
