Support Your Employees Who are Facing End of Life Issues
XL Hospice, Inc. is one of two organizations in Idaho to have been selected as a partner with the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization’s outreach initiative: "It’s About How You LIVE – At Work." This initiative is funded by the Jacob & Valeria Langeloth Foundation. The LIVE – At Work initiative is striving to increase awareness about the needs of working caregivers who struggle with work-life balance while taking care of their ill, elderly, or frail family members. The initiative also seeks to provide resources for employers wanting to improve support for their employees who are seriously ill or who are grieving.
Just how severely do the end of life issues facing employees impact workplaces? Consider a few statistics:
- There are 44 million Americans providing unpaid care to an adult relative or friend.
- Nearly 60% of those caring for an older adult are working.
- US businesses lose as much as $33 billion per year in productivity for full-time employees who are caregivers.
As the population ages, the demand for workplace eldercare programs and family-friendly employers is likely to increase.
